I was in desperate need of a double stroller. When I had a newborn and a toddler, I got a Kolcraft Jeep double. It was heavy and bulky and nearly impossible to navigate. I recently purchased a double umbrella side-by-side, thinking it would solve my problems. While I loved the size and maneuverability, it was simply too wide to handle some door sizes and many store aisles in the city we live (forcing us to wait outside while family got to look around - no fun!). So, I began hunting for something better. I debated between the Safety 1st/Eddie Bauer Transit Tandem, the Baby Trend Sit N Stand, and the Joovy Caboose. After inspecting them all, measuring, and going for test drives, here are my results:
Safety 1st/Eddie Bauer Transit Tandem:
Weight - 33.8 lbs. (according to the Walmart website, but it sure didn't feel that high)
WHEELS footprint (not to be confused with manufacturer dimensions) - 33x20
TOTAL folded/collapsed size (including all attachments such as footrests, canopy, etc. since who wants to remove them every time?) - 47 long x 13 wide x 16 high
Overall impression - I really liked this double tandem stroller: compact size, cushy 5 point child straps, big canopy with peek-hole. The only big problem I had was leg/foot room. My 3-1/2 yo daughter and almost 2 yo son (both VERY low on the height percentile, like 5%) already had very little in BOTH positions. Considering they will only get bigger, I would definitely recommend this stroller for smaller children, like 4-24 months. Also, the basket underneath was quite small. Otherwise, excellent navigation and good collapsed size.
Baby Trend Sit N Stand:
Weight - 25.3 lbs.
WHEELS footprint - 40x21
TOTAL folded/collapsed size - 50 long x 21 wide x 14 high
Overall impression - Not bad, and if I hadn't tried the next one, this would have been my choice (by default). Fairly good maneuvering, although the parent cup tray was very cheap, and the entire stroller seemed quite plastic-y.
Joovy Caboose:
Weight - 24 lbs.
WHEELS footprint - 31.5x21.5
TOTAL folded/collapsed size - 46 long x 21.5 wide x 13 high
Overall impression - Excellent! The very compact wheel footprint makes this a dream to handle. It fits in tight squeezes with ease, which was my main concern. The lack of parent cupholder doesn't faze me, since they're easy to add. Plus, there are convenient little mesh storage compartments on the back of the front seat, which I love.
I have steered it primarily with 2 hands, but also with 1 hand easily as well. I've mostly kept to concrete sidewalks and streets with no difficulties. I don't think this stroller would be overly easy to drive for long periods on unfinished surfaces, but since we're not big on offroading, this doesn't bother us. If you want to push it on grass, uneven dirt, rocks, etc. perhaps a jogging stroller is more suited for you.
What makes this stroller so compact is the setup: the younger child goes up front with the 5 point harness, reclinable seat, and adjustable footrest (I'm not using the carseat anymore, but it has an adaptor included); the older child goes in back and can choose whether to sit down with the 3 point seatbelt facing the driver or stand balancing on the safety strap, handlebars, and standing board facing the front. Also, the canopy is just the right size: depending on the direction of the sun, I have consistently been able to angle it so that both seated children have their faces out of direct sunlight.
I have read some negative comments on the sliding seat in back. While I can see how some people wouldn't like this because it's different, in my opinion, it's not like it slides constantly and easily. Frankly, I like it because while my daughter is sitting on it, I can move her to access the somewhat small but acceptable sized basket underneath. It requires a small [but JUST right amount of] effort to move, so that doesn't bother me or my older child either. In fact, my 3 yo daughter LOVES LOVES LOVES (her words) this stroller, so I let her pick which color (she chose orange). This stroller is by far the most compact, affordable double and well worth the slightly higher expense over the BT Sit N Stand. That is, if you want a better constructed, smaller footprint, easier to navigate stroller.
Great!

I just bought this stroller as my 3 year daughter still likes to ride in the stroller, and my son is now too big for a Bjorn. Definitely a life saver for people with two toddlers!
My chief complaint is that in an effort to make this stroller shorter than the traditional double strollers, the front seat, where the younger child presumably sits, is a little short. My son's legs hang over two-three inches (most seats hit children right where the knees bend) so I worry that it is uncomfortable, but there is a footrest that goes all the way up so that they could rest with their legs supported if they were uncomfortable. Along those same lines, if your older child wants to sit rather than stand, the back of the front seat has too be totally upright, it cannot be reclined at all, say if your child is sleeping or anything.
This is also a BIG stroller when folded, comparable to a Peg, so it will take up a lot of trunck space, for those of us used to an umbrella stroller.
But overall it is great and my daughter loves to ride in it.
One thing- am not sure why they say children cannot be more than 40" tall (for the tandem part.) See no reason why height should be an issue.
Great Family Stroller!

This stroller is a wonderful asset for families with more than one small child. When our daughter was born (third child, all under 4), just getting around became a challenge. This stroller allows us to put the baby's carrier in the front, and BOTH of our small boys (3 and 1 1/2) can stand or sit on the rear platform/seat!
It is very sturdy, easy to open and close, and maneuvers well. We travel often and use this stroller to keep our kids together and comfortable through the airport and then we check it at the gate. It has survived being handled by many airline baggage handlers without any problems.
I would highly recommend this stroller to anyone.

This stroller is truly unlike any other stroller on the market. The front seat has a wonderful deluxe harness and removable tray. It also reclines. Our daughter is just out of her Graco Safe Seat and loves to be sitting in her own seat looking forward. The canopy ratchets into any position needed to block the sun. Our older daughter loves the freedom of sitting or standing on the rear seat or platform. Early in our outings she does alot of walking and then later is able to jump on board and ride without feeling confined in a stroller seat. The stroller steers like a dream and handles like a single stroller. This is the best tandem stroller ever built. I highly recommend it.

I have loved this stroller for my infant and 3-year-old daughter. It unfolds and collapses easily, pushes smoothly, and stores well for a sit and stand model. I love the orange color and have had many comments that indicate it looks more expensive than it actually is - an overall great value for the money.
Children love it, and parents too

We love to go out for strolls. My 3-year-old loves to hop on and off and my one-year-old enjoys the front row seat! We couldn't go out without it but take into account that it is not that easy to push two children and the stroller itself.

When I was about to have my second child I looked at this stroller but insisted I needed a full size double stroller for my then 2 1/2 year old and newborn. Well, I used it sparingly for about six months then gave it up for a single and my older just walking. It was just too big and bulky. My older still wanted to ride occassionaly, and would climb into the basket underneath. It was too much weight for the stroller and I could see the axle bending. Plus, I had to carry the diaper bag to accomidate her. I would bring the double and then she wouldn't sit in it and I dreaded lugging it around for only one rider. So, I sold my hardly used full size and bought this! I wish I would have had it from the beginning! You do lose some storage space, but it's worth it not to have all the weight and bulk. This one turns easily with both kids in it and it has a tray for your youngest in the front. I think you do need to realize the back seat is intended for 2 1/2 year olds and older. My older daughter loves it though, b/c she can get in and out at will. She is perfectly capable of holding her own cup and snacks w/o a tray. I bought a separate cup holder to attach for me. I think it's a great medium between a full size double and a single which doesn't give your oldest options. The best part is that you can strap your oldest in if you don't want them getting out at will. It has great padded handles for the rear rider. Definately the best of both worlds. Neither of my children have ever liked the recline option, so it doesn't matter to me that the front doesn't recline much. The canapy is much better than most strollers out there-great coverage from the sun. I never used the infant carrier option, but I have friends that have and loved it. Great buy!

I suffered for two years with the Jeep Wagoner double stroller. It was heavy, cumbersome, and the kids fought over the front seat attachable toy tray. I could never maneuver through aisles and paths. I banged up my back bumper while trying to load it in and out of the car, and it took up so much trunk space. I bought this Joovy tandem since my children are getting a little older (and don't have to be harnessed up the entire time)...now I wish I had this one from the beginning. They love it. They like to alternate between sitting in comfort up front and standing or sitting in the hot seat by me in back. I love it. I can lift it in and out of the car easily, folding it up and down is a breeze, and it's easy to handle. It consumes a pretty good amount of space, but nothing like the Jeep. It's also attractive, which isn't usually what you say about strollers, but this one is really good-looking. My only issue with it is there could be more space between the back of the heads. If my kids get restless, they start pushing against each other for more head room (even though there's plenty). Other than this (which is mostly my kids' fault), it's terrific!
A little disappointed

I bought this stoller in Aug 2006 with high expectations. I read many reviews and tried the stroller many times in the store before purchasing. I bought for my 3 1/2 and 2 year old sons when they out grew the side by side double stroller. At first I loved the stroller, but now not so much. It is very heavy to push with both children on it. If my now 4 year old (still less than the weight and height guidelines) is on it if he shifts his weight to either side it pulls the whole stroller to one side. Also in the short time I have owned this the foam on the handles is all ready coming apart and falling off. I do not leave it outside or in the car, so this is not due to sun damage. I am hoping to sill use this stroller for future children, but for the two I have this stroller failed to meet my expectations.

We purchased this stroller for our 1 and 3 year old children as a replacement to a conventional double stroller (inline). The "old" stroller was so big and clunky it was hard to manage getting in and out of our car and maneuvering around crowded stores. It was a tank!
We've had this stroller for just over a year now and are still very pleased with it. Our older daughter can sit or stand on the back, and hop on and off fairly easily. We strapped our younger son in the front. After a while we took the tray off the front so he could hop in and out of that seat too, which makes trips to the zoo with constant in-and-outs much easier. We recently had another addition to the family, so the now 4 year old is resigned to walking, and our son stands in the back while our infant rides in a baby carrier strapped to the front seat. The whole arrangement works quite well this way. In order to strap in a baby carrier the front seat must be fully reclined, which leaves very little room for sitting on the back seat. We've found that the kids usually prefer to stand back there anyway, so that's not a big deal.
We've taken the stroller on many trips and found it to be rugged and durable. About the only design flaw we've come across is the sun shade latch (to lock it open or closed) easily bends "over-center" and buckles. We ended up taking it off completely and just gave the kids hats to keep the sun at bay.
We like that this is a somewhat small stroller, much lighter and easier to manage than the full two seat models I'm familiar with. It's easy to collapse and set back up. Being small has its drawbacks though- it's not so easy going to the mall in the winter as there's little room in this stroller to store coats, hats, mittens, bags, etc... that we were accustomed to draping all over our previous model. About the only change I'd contemplate is easier access to the storage basket from the side, rather than the top between the seats.
Overall I highly recommend this stroller and would gladly re-purchase it for my family should the need arise.
Great stroller with only minor problems, many compliments!

I wish I could give it 4.5 stars. I bought this stroller after a horrible experience with the Jeep Wagoneer Tandem by Kolcraft. I have to say that I love it for the most part. It is definitely lighter than the Jeep and MUCH easier to turn, even one handed. I feel that my son's carseat is very secure in the harness. My daughter enjoys riding on the back and being able to get off and look around when we shop.
I hate to complain since my issues with the stroller are things I knew in advance of purchase, so I will say that my only suggestions to the manufacturer would be to add a locking mechanism for the rear toddler seat so that it does not slide back and forth with the child on the seat and to add a small tray, or at least a single cup holder for the parents.
Otherwise I highly recommend this stroller.
After all this time- finally a great stroller for 2 kids

I have an almost 3 year old and a 10 month old. I was lucky enough to find a Graco DuoGlider at a yardsale when I was pregnant with #2 for $15. That stroller was good for a small amount of time- while my little one was in the infant carseat and my older one tolerated sitting in a stroller. The Graco was insanely heavy and massive in my minivan. It barely didn't fit in the back with the 3rd row down. Like I said, at least I only paid $15 for it. Then I lucked out and bought the Jeep Double Umbrella stroller at a consignment sale. This double stroller was light, convenient and worked great. Downsides: some doorways it barely fit in and my older one would get really antsy sitting in it. When I let my older one walk while I pushed the little one I always felt like a dork, pushing a double stroller with only one kid in it. (Maybe it was just me?)
Finally, I researched into the sit-n-stand strollers hoping I could get "Santa" to bring it for me. I looked at the one sold on One Step Ahead, BabyTrend, FisherPrice, and Joovy Caboose. One Step Ahead was 10 or 15 lbs heavier than the Joovy? FisherPrice one they had at my local B'r'Us but was very big when folded up and I'm not sure I liked the basket concept they were going for. That left the BabyTrend and Joovy. I heard good things about both. I test drove both and decided on the Joovy Caboose. It was a bit more expensive but i think well worth it! It is lighter due to the aluminum frame and shorter in length when folded up. I love love love it so far! And my toddler loves it too.
Some downsides: The basket is just about inaccesible due to the toddler being there. I solved this by adding S hooks to the handle bar.
My model did not come with a cup holder- I ended up buying the generic add on cupholder for strollers. Problem solved!
Some of the reviews said they didn't like that the seat in the front doesn't recline for the baby to sleep in. Frankly, that doesn't bother me as I don't let him sleep in the stroller anyway.
Overall, I love it! It fits great in my van and is no bigger than a single Graco stroller.
Great buy! Thanks Santa ;>)

I have bought this stroller due to a raving review from a friend of mine. It's real easy to use - folding is super easy and the stroller is about the same weight as the travel system that we have initially bought when our son was born. The infant carrier fits great and my 2.5 year old son loves to stand on the back.

We got this stroller when my oldest was 3.5 and my youngest was 1.5. My oldest son had outgrown the duo glider that we had, but was still a little too young to walk around places like the mall or other shopping areas without getting tired. This stroller has been great -- he loves to ride on the seat in the back and hop off whenever he wants. I use it as a single stroller too when I just have my youngest son and he also enjoys riding on the back. It's small enough and light enough to use as a single or double and soooo much smaller than most tandem strollers. Only complaint is that there is no cupholder for parents. I really miss that feature from my old stroller. Also, this stroller is best for things like shopping, quick trips, etc. I don't use it for long walks in the neighborhood.

I had an Eddie Bauer tandem stroller. I got sick of lugging around a 50lb stroller. I bought this stroller and loved it. I have a 1 year old and 2 year old. Both kids love this stroller. Its light weight, turns on a dime, and for double stroller it folds up pretty flat. As far as the useless basket, we bought a caribeener and I hang my purse and and shopping bags from it. I do miss the cupholder my old stroller had. But, this stroller is so light, and doesnt take up my whole trunk. So, its worth a little hassle. I highly recommend it!

we actually use this interchangeably with our three children, 5 years, 3 years and 5 mos. sometimes we have actually had them all ride at once. the orange and black looks so good and it has held up really great to all our rough treatment. i would recommend buying the accessory to hold a drink and stuff up by the handle. i would say it is the best stand-on stroller made. we took it to a festival and people kept looking over at it and complimenting us. their were even some other families there who had purchased other brands and styles and they said, "we wish we would have got that one!" we are also pleased with how compactly it folds.

This stroller is worth every penny. I have a 3 year old and 6 month old. It worked very well with our Graco infant seat (while the little guy was still in it.) We live in a city and were looking for something that could fit in tight spaces, travel in public transportation, etc. Given the ridiculous size (and price!!!) of most double strollers, this one seemed to make sense. And it has totally delivered. I have highly recommended it to all friends and would defnitely buy it again.

This is such a great stroller for those with an active toddler and a new baby. It's lightweight and easy to set up and manuver in tight spaces. We love it, just wish it had some cup holders and a bit more access to the storage area. It's a great way to get both those little ones around town for sure!

I have not purchased this Joovy stroller (only saw it at the store), so I cannot rate it. But after reading the reviews, I thought I should post this information about a different stand on tandem stroller...
If you don't like this Joovy stroller, try the Baby Trend Sit-N-Stand LX. I just bought it for my tall 2 1/2 year old son and our soon to arrive baby. There is plenty of room for my older son to sit (sitting forward or backwards) or stand even with the front seat in its "back" position and with the infant carrier sitting in the front seat. Infant seat "snaps" into the front seat just like the regular and convenient Baby Trend Snap-n-Go. It has 2 cup holder tray for parent and a tray for front seat. The handle bars are tall enough for tall people (I am 5'10"). The front seat seems more cushioned than the Joovy. The stroller turns fine while children are in their seats.
One downside, similar to the Joovy, is that the front seat does not lay all the way flat to accomodate sleeping babies which can be remedied by just placing the baby and the infant carrier into the front seat. Another downside, it is a tight fit to get the stroller into my car which is just a four door (not a SUV) but it does have a big trunk for a 4-door; I have to take the canopy off the stroller before putting it into the trunk. Fortunately, the canopy comes off real easily, so it is no big deal.
It is also less expensive than the Joovy.
Regardless of your choice, enjoy and blessings!
